Hi my namer is Liv! I am the proprietor and main tutor at Atama Math. And guess what? I used to be a student too! That means that I understand how hard studying and learning math can be.
It also means I know what it is like to have low confidence in my mathematical abilities.
Did you know I used to think I was bad at math and I was not smart enough to study math in University. Yes, I used to think that! And guess what ... I graduated from a great University with a math degree!
At Atama Math I want us to think about math differently. Firstly, everyone and I mean everyone can be GREAT at math. Secondly, making mistakes is okay. Yes I said that making mistakes is okay, because we learn from them. Lastly, organic problem solving is the key to success, not repeating some formula copied from your grade 12 calculus teachers notes!

At Atama Math we believe there is no such thing as a math person. Math is learned through practice and failure. Wait did we just say failure? Yes we did, math is learned through failure.
Of course we are not talking about failing all your tests but a term called "productive struggle." Productive struggle is the process of effortful learning that develops creative problem solving. When students face problems they don't immediately know how to solve (like on new assessments), we don't want them to give up!
Unfortunately problem solving in not emphasized in our modern math education systems. Many students give up when given a problem that is novel. At Atama Math we teach students the skills to work through new problems and excel in mathematics.
